Tara Harman, MS, RDN is an Instructor in the Department of Nutrition Sciences. Tara earned her undergraduate degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and master's degree in Nutrition Sciences from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. During her master's, Tara researched the effectiveness of case studies as a teaching pedagogy and completed all credentialing requirements to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Tara is now a PhD candidate in Health Education and Health Promotion with UAB's School of Public Health and researching the effectiveness of nutrition education on improved cooking self-efficacy and food insecurity status in post-secondary students.
Tara has diverse experiences working in academia, with government agencies (state, federal), non-profits, and in the development of community-based nutrition programs. She currently teaches an undergraduate community nutrition course and graduate-level courses in food science, menu planning, and food systems management.
