Scholarship
I love sharing my passion about my profession. I do this through my writing and through speaking opportunities. I co-authored a second edition Human Kinetics book that focuses on integrating physical education and health education into the classroom. I have also published 25 refereed national journal articles, 10 refereed state level journal articles, 4 refereed nationally published professional documents and 1 reviewed state level governmental document.
I have been an invited speaker 143 times (13 national, 91 regional and 39 state) including 16 keynote presentations. I have also attended professional conferences where I have made 125-refereed presentations (2 international, 31 national, 35 regional and 57 state level). In all, I have made 268 invited and refereed presentations.
Service
Much of my leadership service is motivated by the commitment to my profession. I believe my profession has the ability to enhance everyone's quality of life. There is nothing more important than the health and wellness of each person. My desire is to educate and help as many people as possible through my service. I have worked with many individuals and professional groups who are committed to making an impact on the world. I love being part of this service mission. Specifically, I have held various leadership positions at the national, regional and state levels. Nationally, I am currently serving on the Board of Directors for the National Academy of Health and Physical Literacy. I have also served on the NAGWS Board of Directors; AAHPERD District Transition Committee; Official Observer for the AAHPERD Board of Governors; and three committees, one of which I chaired. Regionally, I am currently the Southern Tier Health and Physical Literacy Representative. I have also served as the chair of the Southern States Future Professionals Leadership Development Conference. I have served as the President of Southern District AAHPERD and on the Executive Committee for five years. I have served as a regional delegate for eight terms and served two terms as a regional vice president. At the state level, I have served in numerous leadership roles in the Alabama State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance since 1988. Currently, I am the ASAHPERD Future Professionals Council Advisor.
Personal
I love being active outdoors. I enjoy walking, swimming, fishing and boating. I enjoy observing wildlife, specifically eagle watching. I also enjoy photography. "Finding Joy in the Journey" was the theme for my year as Southern District AAHPERD President. This sums up my philosophy of life. I believe it is important to focus on the positive and not the negatives things in life.
