Atriopeptin: potent hormone and potential neuromediator

Academic Article

  • Atriopeptin, or atrial natriuretic peptide, plays an important role in the regulation of fluid and electrolyte balance. Recently, it has been shown that this peptide is present in central nervous system neurons and pathways which are believed to be involved in cardiovascular and fluid and electrolyte regulation. Atriopeptin may represent another example of a peptide acting at multiple levels to regulate the same or related homeostatic functions. © 1985.
