Characterization of antibodies to the native human collagens and to their component α chains in the sera and the joint fluids of patients with rheumatoid arthritis

Academic Article

  • Studies were conducted on selected patients with rheumatoid arthrities (RA) to determine the specificity of antibodies to native human Types I, II, and III collagens and to their component α chains in sera and in joint fluids. Hemagglutination inhibition experiments showed that these antibodies were specific for each collagen and its component chain(s). Fractionation of the samples by Sephadex G-200 and DEAE-cellulose chromatography, as well as treatment with 2-mercaptoethanol, indicated that the antibodies belong to both IgG and IgM classes. © 1976.
