Effect of 'Aquasol A', vitamin A, and 'Tween 80' on vesicular stomatitis virus plaque formation and on interferon action. Brief report

Academic Article

Abstract

  • Pretreatment of human embryonic lung cells (L 132) with a water soluble preparation of vitamin A (Aquasol A, 50,000 USP units per milliliter of natural vitamin A, U.S.V. Pharmaceutical Corp., New York, N.Y.) or Tween 80 (Mann Research Laboratories, New York, N.Y.) prior to infection with vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) resulted in an increased number of plaques. Simultaneous treatment of cells with interferon and Aquasol A, Tween 80 or vitamin A also reduced the action of the interferon.
