Noncomplication in solid organ transplantation

Academic Article

  • In the past decade, the short-term survival of allografts has improved dramatically, focusing increased attention on challenges to long-term transplant success. Given the critical importance of adequate pharmacologic immunosuppression in the current era, the inability of allograft recipients to adhere to complex medical regimens for prolonged periods of time may compromise outcomes to a greater extent than previously recognized. This review summarizes recent progress regarding the impact of noncompliance on transplant outcomes (and its underlying causes), approaches for early detection, and potential remedies.
