Transition in the nature of magnetoexcitons in shallow quantum wells

Abstract

  • As quantum wells become shallow, excitons change from 2D- to 3D-like. We show that, with extremely shallow wells and in-plane magnetic fields, truly two-body effects determine the exciton confinement properties. This can be observed experimentally via the changes in magnetoexciton linewidth, electroabsorption behavior, and dynamics for different magnetic field orientations.
