The role of the kinesiotherapist in counseling disabled persons on blood cholesterol

Academic Article

  • Cholesterol has become a major health issue in this country. The National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) has established new guidelines for cholesterol which are recommended for all adults over the age of 20. The kinesiotherapist can make an important contribution toward helping disabled adults understand the importance of an acceptable cholesterol level in the prevention of coronary heart disease. This paper highlights the recommended values for cholesterol established by the NCEP. The paper explains the importance of total cholesterol, and high and low density lipoproteins, and discusses how HDL-cholesterol is affected by physical activity.
