Predictors of intent to leave current employment among rehabilitation counselors

Academic Article

Abstract

  • We evaluated a model predicting rehabilitation counselors' intent to leave their current employment as a function of job satisfaction, fit between person and organizational values and work setting (state vocational rehabilitation v. other settings). The predicted model accounted for 64% of the variance supporting each variable with exception of work setting. Results from this study helps us better understand variables that influence one's decision to continue in their present employment. The study also provides preliminary information regarding the impact of the Rehabilitation Services Administration training grant program and strategies to improve career longevity for state-federal vocational rehabilitation counselors.
