Education: An enabler of translation

Abstract

  • Many translation frameworks highlight the critical role of education in the translation process. The characteristics of the learner, the context of learning, and the nature of the change to be accomplished all factor in decisions about design, deployment, and evaluation of learning. This chapter aims to address each of these aspects of education and provide a guide to help clinicians whose translation efforts depend on changing knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs. The chapter helps the reader to have an understanding of the evolving diversity in learners that is relevant for those who would teach effectively, the most impactful and broadly adopted educational theories that can be applied to support translation, a set of evidence-based practices adopted by effective educators engaged in translation, and a set of metrics that can be used to evaluate educational interventions and innovations.
