Eight cases of disseminated herpes simplex virus infection in children 9 to 16 months of age are reported. An association between malnutrition and dissemination of the virus is mooted. Attention is drawn to the highly characteristic liver lesions and the histo-pathology of various organs is described. Virus isolation was carried out in three cases with titration of virus in several organs in two of these. The high incidence of infection in the lower socio-economic groups is briefly discussed.
