Peritoneal carcinomatosis is a common late-stage complication of many gastrointestinal and gynecologic malignancies. This review discusses the current clinical management of peritoneal carcinomatosis as well as recent advances in the development of tumor-targeted optical fluorophores that may play a role in improving patient survival.
