Depression in schizophrenia: A study of prevalence and treatment

Academic Article

  • In an investigation of white, coloured, and black patients admitted to a psychiatric hospital, the prevalence and treatment of depression in schizophrenia was assessed and found to be 30% in a group of acute, nuclear schizophrenics. While the prevalence was similar in the three groups, depression was clinically under-detected in black patients.
