Magnetic resonance angiography of the lower extremities

Academic Article

  • Noncontrast magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) has been used successfully for evaluating peripheral vascular disease of the lower extremities. Artifacts associated with regions of turbulence and slow flow have prevented noncontrast MRA from replacing intra-arterial digital subtraction angiography. Contrast-enhanced MRA (CE MRA) allows faster imaging with improved spatial, contrast, and even temporal resolution. With further advances in MRA-specific hardware and software, CE MRA may will become the diagnostic imaging gold standard for evaluation of the lower extremities.
