Antiretrovirals for HIV nephropathy?

  • A case study of a 37-year-old woman with HIV-associated nephropathy (HAN) is reviewed. Two physicians' skepticism about the diagnosis and suggestions for the treatment course for her kidney disease are detailed. The physicians' recommendations on monitoring of CD4 cell count and viral loads and coordinating those counts with antiretroviral therapy is described. Information on the typical course of HAN is also given.
