CAUSTIC SURFACE AND THE CODDINGTON EQUATIONS.

Academic Article

Abstract

  • Communication to the Editor shows that the Coddington equations are a special case of the caustic surface equation, which described the loci of the sagittal and tangential focal points along the deflected ray paths. The Coddington equations are thus valid only for meridional rays, and the caustic surface provides the sagittal and tangential focal points for general skew rays.
