Abstract

  • A change in the angle at which light in a background impinged upon the retina caused a rapid rise, followed by a slower decay, in the brightness of the background and in the increment threshold measured at the center of the background. These effects were independent of the direction of the change of the incident angle of the background light, and independent of the incident angle of the light in the test flash. The concept of cone adaptation pools can account for the results, but only if the hypothesized interactions between dark light and real light are constrained in certain ways. © 1968.
