Airway management: Special situations

Chapter

Abstract

  • © 2015 NAEMSP. The uncontrolled nature of the prehospital setting may introduce special clinical and logistical challenges for patient care, including in the area of airway management. Prehospital providers and EMS physicians must be aware of and prepared for these special circumstances. The ability to intubate and otherwise manage the airway in a variety of positions, lighting conditions, and tactical threats, with various equipment options, is key to successful out-of-hospital airway management
