Perinatal Epidemiology

Chapter

Abstract

  • Perinatal epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of conditions associated with the period just before and after birth. This area of study includes morbidity and mortality, such as low birth weight, preterm birth, intrauterine fetal growth, stillbirth, and neonatal mortality. Risk factors for adverse birth outcomes in this period are complex and should be examined through the life course perspective.
