A window manager for a volumetric workstation is under development. Based on experience with displaying transparent cubes of sampled data, the window manager treats windows as transparent PAGEs, and allows multiple PAGEs to be displayed simultaneously on a stereoscopic display. The users perceive this volume space and interacts with it with keyboard, voice input, mouse and 3 dimensional (3D) pointer. The overall design of the volumetric workstation and results from preliminary studies with transparent PAGEs are presented. © 1988 SPIE.
