  • Differential diagnosis of dementia remains an art demanding of the clinician's skills. The absence of gold standards for diagnosis and the sometimes poor links between clinical disease and neuropathologic findings add to the challenge. Nonetheless, the continued development and updating of both practice parameters and diagnostic criteria provide the practitioner with the background to make informed diagnostic decisions.
