Effects of aluminum hydroxide on the absorption of propranolol

Academic Article

Abstract

  • Concurrent administration of propranolol tablets and aluminium hydroxide gel resulted in the decreased bioavailability of propranolol in 4 of the 5 subjects. The mean decrease in the maximum plasma concentration was 57% (F=11.341, P<0.05). The area under the plasma concentration time curve was decreased by 58% (F=12.886, P<0.05). The data suggest that a clinically significant interaction may occur at these dosage levels.
