Methodology of reprocessing one-time use accessories

Academic Article

  • As fiscal pressures continue, the impetus to save money wherever possible will remain. Given the expense of endoscopic accessories, evaluation of equipment reuse will remain important. Further investigation needs to be performed to document better the absence of infection risks when these instruments are reused such that adequate cover can be given to infection control committees as well as medicolegal departments. Whether centers will purchase resterilized single use accessories from companies that accept liability also remains to be studied; formal cost analysis needs to be undertaken to determine the feasibility of this latter approach.
