Infection-related risk factors predictive of spontaneous preterm labor and birth

Academic Article

Abstract

  • These microbiological studies of the upper and lower genital tracts support the conclusion that microbial colonization of the upper genital tract and the lower genital tract markers of bacterial vaginosis and FFN are strongly associated with spontaneous preterm labor and birth. Data also exist to strongly suggest that identification and treatment of the described lower genital tract markers will reduce the occurrence of preterm births.
