Midge Ray, PhD is a Professor in the Department of Health Services Administration and an Associate Scientist in the UAB Minority Health & Health Disparities Research Center . She has Master’s degrees in both nursing and education and a PhD in Health Behavior. Dr. Ray currently teaches in the Master of Science (MS) in Health Care Quality and Safety Program, Health Informatics Program and in the MS in Health Administration Program. Course responsibilities include Integrative HQS Capstone Experience, HI Capstone Projects, Healthcare Requirements Analysis, Introduction to Health Informatics and Health and Human Disease. As investigator, her research has included using technology in health behavior change (tobacco cessation), safe medication use, and medication adherence in primary care practices. Dr. Ray is also an investigator in research on hospital acquired infections project and factors associated with nursing home performance. Dr. Ray is a subject matter expert in ICD-9-CM, CPT, ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems. She has over 50 publications in peer reviewed journals and as author of book chapters. She has been a co-author on two different manuscripts that received the Distinguished Paper Awards from American Medical Informatics Association and has published with her colleagues in numerous journals including American Journal of Preventive Medicine, Journal of American Medical Informatics Association, Journal of Health Psychology, Journal of Pharmacotherapy, and Journal of General Internal Medicine. She is also the Faculty Coordinator for the implementation of the UAB Profiles tool and instrumental in the development of Scholars at UAB which is a public profile of UAB faculty. She has served on the UAB Athletics Advisory Board, Student Athletic Opportunity and Welfare Subcommittee, SHP Strategic Planning Committee and School of Health Professions Faculty Affairs Committee.
