Teaching Overview

  • My major teaching interests include the development of cell biology and histology teaching materials for students in health professional schools, namely those in medical, dental and optometry. Teaching modalities include traditional lectures, laboratories, small groups and virtual microscopy, and the material is integrated with other basic science disciplines (i.e. anatomy, physiology, pathology) and presented in the context of clinical situations as appropriate. Additionally, my educational interests include serving the UAB School of Medicine in the following areas; as course director for the introductory Fundamentals of Medicine course, as the Chair of the Medical Education Committee, and as a member of the Admissions Interview and Selection committees. I am also interested in student health and wellbeing, and have established a Mind-Body-Medicine course and lecture series addressing stress management, empathy, self-awareness and self-care.
