• I am currently an assistant professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where I teach undergraduate and alternative masters students in both of the Pedagogy I and Pedagogy II blocks. Through the Pedagogy blocks I am able to teach a variety of courses: Children's Literature, Language Arts in the Elementary Classroom, Developmental Reading I, and Developmental Reading II.

I have served as a teacher for fifteen years in a variety of capacities. I have taught third graders, second graders, K-2 students through a multi-aged program, fifth grade self-contained, and fifth-grade departmentalized. I have also had the opportunity to serve as a reading coach in two school systems.

I received my undergraduate degree in elementary education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and master's degree in early childhood through the Transdisciplinary Team at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I am a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Middle Childhood Generalist and currently a doctoral student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where my primary research focus is supporting teacher candidates with implementing best practices in the area of literacy beyond the university setting.

Finally, I also serve as the current Director of the Children's Creative Learning Center, a forty-three year summer program that serves students through partnerships with the Birmingham City School System and the Hoover City School System. As director of this program, I oversee curriculum planning & development, employee hiring, grant writing, program evaluations, and assessments of student learning.
