Joey Kennedy, a Pulitzer Prize winner, is a life-long journalist. He worked for more than 33 years at The Birmingham News. He’s won numerous awards, including best editorial columnist in Alabama five times, and is a finalist for two more Pulitzer Prizes. Joey writes a weekly column for Alabama Political Reporter and the monthly back-page column, “B-Curious,” for B-Metro magazine, a Birmingham city magazine. Joey teaches English at UAB, where he was named the Walt Mayfield Outstanding Adjunct Instructor in 2018. He also teaches seminars in the University Honors Program at UAB, where he was picked by the seniors of 2020 as their Most Distinguished Teacher. He is faculty adviser for the UAB College Democrats and Blazing Quiz Bowl. Joey lives on Birmingham’s Southside with Veronica, his wife of 40 years, and together they share a grumble of pugs.
