Dr. Joanna M. Joly returned to UAB in July 2018 as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Section in the Division of Cardiovascular Disease. She is originally from the Washington, DC metropolitan area, and received her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2011. She completed an Internal Medicine residency at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and affiliated sites including the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Inova Fairfax Hospital, Washington Hospital Center, and the National Institutes of Health. She pursued a fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease here at UAB, where she became enthralled by the pathology of advanced heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. In 2018 she completed a fellowship in Advanced Heart Disease and Transplant Cardiology at Harvard University’s Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. She is thrilled to be back at UAB and considers it a great privilege to care for the people of Alabama and surrounding states.
Dr. Joly’s clinical and research interests include acute and chronic management of life-threatening heart failure and pulmonary hypertension, as well as cardiovascular physiology in mechanically-supported circulation.
