Welcome to the Department of Nutrition Sciences.
Hippocrates recognized the importance of nutrition and healthy living when he said
“If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have the safest way to health.”
Faculty in the Department of Nutrition Sciences (DNS) conduct basic, clinical, and translational research to identify the optimum personalized lifestyle (nutrition, exercise, behavior modification) to promote good health and to prevent and manage chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cancer and heart disease. Our clinical programs then put this information into practice in both the clinic and the community. Our clinical programs provide fantastic training experiences for our undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students, and for those interested in becoming registered dietitians.
Our outstanding faculty is committed to educating and training the next generation of nutrition scientists, educators, and practitioners. We offer an undergraduate minor, 5 different tracks for a master’s degree, and an outstanding Ph.D. program. UAB is a fantastic place to get a master degree or a Ph.D.
Whether you are a prospective student, faculty member or just someone interested in living a healthy life, please visit us on the web or in person. UAB nutrition is leading the way to a healthier life for everyone.
