Overview

  • Dr. David C. Cleveland received his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed his pediatric cardiovascular surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto Canada. Among other positions, Dr. Cleveland has served as the chief of pediatric cardiac surgery for the Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, The Children’s Hospital at Medical City Dallas, and St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. While in Phoenix, he founded the Eller Congenital Heart Center and served as its executive director until his departure in 2011.

    His special interests include early repair of complex congenital heart disease, fetal intervention, adult congenital heart disease, and outcomes measurement for continuous performance improvement.

    Teaching Overview

  • Dr. Cleveland has a major interest in developing medical student educational programs and enhancing resident training. He has been the Program Director of the Thoracic Surgery Residency Program since 2016.
