• Dr. Kertrisa McWhite is a fellowship trained surgical breast oncologist. She has over 13 years of experience providing a full range of surgical services to women battling breast cancer, along with high risk counseling services for women with a history of breast cancer in their families. She describes herself as a “fixer” and attributes her gravitation toward surgery to that characteristic. She likes surgery because it is technical, but she also enjoys the emotional support she can offer a patient undergoing a personal procedure like a mastectomy. Dr. McWhite offers a full range of surgical options to her patients in a sensitive, caring and reassuring manner.

Dr. McWhite is southerner, from New Albany, Georgia and is a Yale University graduate. She received her Doctorate of Medicine at the Medical College of Pennsylvania-Hahnemann School of Medicine, completed residency in general surgery at Monmouth Medical Center in New Jersey and a fellowship in surgical breast oncology at Susan G. Komen/University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, TX, one of the most prestigious surgical breast oncology fellowship programs in the U.S.

Dr. McWhite will serve as a clinical assistant professor within the Division of Surgical Oncology at UAB and work collaboratively with her twenty specialty trained colleagues to provide patients with access to cutting edge medicine, research and clinical trials that have not been offered in our community previously. In addition, Dr. McWhite will participate in several departmental activities at UAB including tumor board, scholarly activities, grand rounds and interdisciplinary case review committees to ensure the care plan recommended for a patient is the best choice to treat her specific surgical and treatment need.

In her spare time, Dr. McWhite enjoys spending time with her family, reading and antiquing.
