• Dr. Luz A Padilla is a physician from Mexico, she received her MD from the Universidad de Guadalajara and obtained an MSPH in Applied Epidemiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, she was awarded Outstanding Master student of the year from the SOPH. As faculty for the Department of Epidemiology she is the course master for both undergraduate and graduate level courses. Dr. Padilla serves on the UAB Institutional Review Board (IRB) and other committees. She has worked with the Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) study and has helped train students in research and conducting infectious and chronic diseases (Cancer, HIV, HPV, TB, HTLV-1, etc), nutritional and maternal and child health studies internationally in countries such as Swaziland, Zambia, Ghana, Jamaica, Guatemala, Peru and Mexico. Currently she is the director of surgical research for the Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center of Alabama, collaborating in research related to congenital heart disease, surgical outcomes, and xenotransplantation.
