Overview

  • Amy Yarbrough Landry, Ph.D., the Howard W. Houser Endowed Professor in Health Services Administration, is an associate professor in the Department of Health Services Administration at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Landry also serves as Director for the Master of Science in Health Administration program. She received her Ph.D. (administration-health services) from UAB in 2006. Prior to joining the faculty at UAB, she was a member of the Health Services Research, Management, and Policy faculty at the University of Florida. Landry's research interests include the strategic behavior of healthcare organizations, organizational performance and strategic human resources management. She received a Health Management Research Award from the American College of Healthcare Executives in 2007, and she received a research award from the Lister Hill Center for Health Policy in 2011 to study financial distress in the nursing home sector. Dr. Landry is currently studying the management practices of nursing homes with low resources. Her research has been published in the Journal of Healthcare Management, Medical Care Research and Review, and the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice. Dr. Landry has served as the Division Chair for the Health Care Management Division of the Academy of Management, and she is actively engaged in the Association of University Programs in Health Administration.

    Research Overview

  • Dr. Landry's research interests surround the strategic behavior of healthcare organizations. She studies the organizational performance of hospitals and nursing homes. Dr. Landry has a particular interest in organizations that serve vulnerable populations, and she has done a variety of work studying the Medicaid program and its effectiveness.
