Overview

  • Dr. Wilson joined the faculty in 2008 and is currently an Associate Professor. She completed her undergraduate studies at Georgetown University and medical degree at Howard University College of Medicine. Her Urology training was conducted at the University of Connecticut and she received fellowship training in Female Urology, Neurourology and Urodynamics from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Wilson has been Board Certified since 2005 and was the first urologist in the state of Alabama to receive sub-certification in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery in 2013. Her clinical focus is on the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor disorders (urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and fecal incontinence) in women, as well as the urologic care of male and female patients with neurogenic voiding dysfunction.

She is the department’s Director of Medical Student Education and selects students interested in doing an elective in the department during their 3rd or 4th year of medical school.

Dr. Wilson is also Co-Director of the fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (a collaborative fellowship with the Division of Urogynecology). This is a fully collaborative fellowship in FPMRS that accepts both urologists and gynecologists. The program for urologists is two years, and three years for gynecologists.

Lastly, she has a particular interest in the adult Spina Bifida patient and helps to lead a multidisciplinary team in the care of that population. This clinic has been in existence since 2013 and has attracted patients from across the country. This multidisciplinary team (consisting of Urology, Neurosurgery and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physicians) works closely with a similar team at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama, allowing for a smooth transition from the Children’s Hospital of Alabama into the adult clinic at the age of 18.
