Epidemiology of hypertension



  • High blood pressure is the most common modifiable risk factor for cardiovasculardisease and the leading cause of mortality. Analysis of world wide data indicates that 972million persons had hypertension in 2000 and is predicted that 1.56 billion people willhave high blood pressure in 2025. In this chapter we discuss the prevalence, awareness,treatment and control rates of hypertension according to countries/regions, gender, ageand race/ethnicity. © 2012 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
