Psychosocial issues in geriatric urology: Problems in treatment and treatment seeking

Academic Article

  • Although there are many effective treatments for bladder disorders, there are strong disincentives for older adults to report their symptoms. The role that health care providers and urologists in particular play in eliminating these roadblocks is of primary importance. In addition, these older patients may present for treatment with altered mental status, functional disabilities, and inadequate support systems that may limit treatment effectiveness. With insight and planning the urologic team can be prepared to meet those challenges and to maximize outcomes for this vulnerable population.
