Not so long ago, exercise was felt to be contraindicated in all forms and stages of heart failure. Since then, several studies have shown that exercise training in this population results in an improvement in several ways. The effect of exercise training on morbidity and mortality in patients with heart failure is till not known, but a recent small randomized trial showed that patients with left ventricular dysfunction who underwent cardiac rehabilitation had a decrease in mortality and fewer readmissions for heart exacerbation.
