Office evaluation of the obese patient

Academic Article

  • Obesity is now recognized as a chronic disease that is affecting a large percentage of the population. Correctly evaluating this population is critical for long-term management of the obese patient. Taking an obesity-focused history, assessing the degree of adiposity and obesity-related comorbidities, and the patient's readiness for treatments are all a part of the office-based evaluation process. From this framework and assessment the overall risk status of the patient can be determined, and appropriate long-term treatment options can be initiated.
