A classification of endocervical curettings

Academic Article

Abstract

  • A histologic classification of endocervical curettings with division into unsatisfactory, negative, minimal-moderate dysplasia, marked dysplasia-carcinoma in situ, questionably invasive carcinoma, and invasive squamous cell carcinoma has been described and illustrated. When applied with relative uniformity and considered with cytologic pattern and cervical biopsy findings, this classification will assist in the evaluation of the patient with abnormal Papanicolaou smears. Techniques for obtaining adequate samples and for processing them with minimal tissue wastage have been described. © 1976.
