Wound identification and physical abuse

  • Injury in older persons challenges health-care providers (HCPs), particularly when the cause and manner of cutaneous manifestations are unknown. Consequently, HCPs order a barrage of tests to sort differential diagnoses that are dependent on known comorbidity. The following chapter helps the HCPs initiate a forensic lens to distinguish between intentional and unintentional injury, forming a basis for reporting in institutions where older persons seek care.
