Reading and writing disorders caused by central nervous system defects

Academic Article

  • The most common neurologic cause of reading and writing disorders is vascular disease, although some of these disorders may result from tumor, trauma, degenerative diseases, or encephalitis. Whenever possible, primary treatment should be directed toward the underlying disease, and then attempts should be made to retrain the patient. If this fails, alternate methods of reading and writing should be sought.
