  • Despite advances in early detection and improvement in treatment options, cancer continues to be a major health issue in terms of morbidity and mortality. In the U.S. alone, a total of 1,372,910 new cancer cases and 570,280 deaths are expected in the year 2005. Among men, prostate, bronchoalveolar, and colorectal cancers account for more than 56% of all newly diagnosed cases. The three most commonly diagnosed cancers among women are breast, bronchoalveolar, and colorectal, accounting for approximately 55% of estimated cancer cases.
