  • © 2010 by Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. Methotrexate (MTX) is an antimetabolite used in the treatment of many benign and malignant disorders. It is one of the disease-modifying agents (DMARDs) used for three decades in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and has also found its use in the treatment of patients with sarcoidosis and psoriasis. Combined with other agents, methotrexate is used in the treatment of various malignant disorders such as acute lymphocytic leukaemia, choriocarcinoma, Burkitt’s lymphoma in children, breast cancer, osteogenic carcinoma and head and neck cancers.1.
