The future of generic HIV drugs in Rhode Island

  • The number of HIV-infected persons in the United States continues to increase and most patients with HIV will be on antiretroviral therapy (ART) for many decades.┬áThe introduction of generic antiretroviral medications has the potential for significant cost savings which may then be accompanied by improved access. State AIDS Drug Assistance Programs will be made more effective by the switch to generic ARTs. Cost savings and barriers to the introduction of generic ART are discussed.
