This module describes the health care delivery system of the United States with a focus on managed care as the dominant model. Also covered is the Affordable Care Act and its role in extending health insurance coverage to the uninsured, along with the continuing problems of cost, equity, and the distribution of services. The United States remains the only major industrialized country without a universal system of health insurance for the general population, but is slowly changing in this direction.
