Abstract

  • A dynamically reconfigurable large-scale multimicroprocessor system capable of operating as one or more independent SIMD (single instruction stream-multiple data stream) machines and/or MIMD (multiple instruction stream-multiple data streammachines is described. The system consists of a parallel computation unit, which contains N processors, N memory modules, and an interconnectin network; Q micro controllers, each controlling N/Q processors; a memory management system, to load the N memory modules; and a system control unit, to coordinate the other system components. The way in which themicro controllers can form varying size groups of processors in the micro partitionable SIMD/MIMD environment is discussed.
