Nursing students are a viable population for inclusion in research; however, the ease of recruiting students also places them at risk for harm. Students are subject to the formal authority of others, which can limit their autonomy. When designing research involving students, nurse educators must implement additional strategies to protect students from harm. The authors describe the benefits of recruiting college students for research, the issue of coercive recruitment practices, and strategies for minimizing risks to students.
