Near- Recent sedimentologic history of Mobile Bay, Alabama: seismic and lithologic characteristics.

Academic Article

Abstract

  • The seismic records of the near-surface sediments reveal four major seismic stratigraphic units separated by one major and at least one minor unconformity. Clean sands, perhaps representing beach deposits, are now found some two miles bayward of the present shoreline, and under more recently accumulated bay muds. Migration of near-shore environments in Mobile Bay can be related to the post-glacial rise of sea level. However, the recent rise of sea level was, perhaps, not smooth and continuous. -from Authors
