Metrizamide (Amipaque), a non ionic water soluble contrast agent has been shown to be safe and efficacious for lumbar myelography. Thoracic and cervical myelography have also produced good results. Cisternography with metrizamide utilizing hypocloidal tomography in ten patients has been performed with finely detailed depiction of anatomical detail. Patient tolerance has been very good, and both the anatomical information and lessened morbidity suggest the application of this technique as an alternative to pneumoencephalography. The methods and anatomy are presented, and clinical applications are illustrated.
